Dimensions: 34.5" x 22.5"
Fabric pieces: 600
This is another piece from my thesis, created during my 2010 Spring semester.
I chose to create New York City because I wanted to try making skyscrapers out of fabric.
The most difficult part of this piece was figuring out how to show the glass-fronted skyscrapers as a reflective surface. Dying my own fabric and layering the building faces in small sections to imitate stories solved the dilemma. In addition, I dyed both the sky and the reflective lake.
For the buildings that are not glass-fronted, all of the windows were cut out using an Xacto knife.
Another fun fact ... One of the green fabrics I chose for the trees has a dollar sign pattern. I thought that was very appropriate for New York City!
