Flower Garden

For being a creative person, I find it surprisingly difficult to step outside the template (so to speak), and go free-form. Free-form — also known as "improv" — is cutting pieces of fabric without using a template, so there's no guide. It makes me a nervous wreck.

My mom and I had dinner one evening over spring break, and after we ate she pulled out the fabric and irons. I'd had a drink by that point, but she kept my glass full, and we cut and glued and drank for the next few hours. This picture was the evening's creation.

I couldn't handle making the butterfly free-form, though. I drew a template and added it the next day.
