Arcane Snap

A boy and his dog were in the right place at the right time to witness an Arcane Snap. An Arcane Snap is like a magical earthquake. Over time, magical energy builds up pressure until it finally...snaps. Just like a tremor, some Snaps are benign. The one shown in this quilt is no more than a very colorful light show. But sometimes Snaps can have powerful, lasting, and unexpected effects on the surrounding area.

A Snap triggered the events of The Arrival. A large, destructive Snap occurred in a metropolitan area of my Steampunk world. Seeing the havoc wreaked by this unchecked arcane power incentivized the human government to send an envoy to the elves, in the hopes of learning from them about control of magic.
