Quilt National 2025

It's been almost a year since I last saw my quilt, Echoes of Time and Magic (just Echoes for short), in person. Last year, it was juried into Quilt National '25 (sometimes simply QN or QN25). After getting the happy news, I had to send my quilt to The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio, which means I have not seen it face-to-fabric since last October.

Finally, finally, the grand opening of QN25 arrived. Last weekend was the big event, and Alex and I flew to Ohio for the opening weekend.

I hope you enjoy these photos of me, Echoes, and some of the art from the event.

Quilt National '25

Quilt National: The Best in Contemporary Quilts is ostensibly a quilt show, but it's geared more to fine art than traditional quilt show. QN is open to all fiber arts, and consequently, there's generally a pretty wide variety of art on display. It's a very cool show.

We walked into the event and found Echoes hung in pride of place next to the show title. How cool!

I always like to dress up for my artwork, and QN was no exception.

Here are all of the artists who attended the opening event. This photo was taken in front of the main entrance of The Dairy Barn.

The Space

The Dairy Barn is a former dairy barn that has been renovated and converted into a gallery. It's a long, skinny space. The doors of the gallery open into the center of the room, which is where the show title and my quilt were hanging. Here is the view down the right side of the gallery.

The Art

Here are a few of my favorite quilts from the show (other than Echoes, of course!)

That last one, Encounter of Lines and Surfaces II, was Alex's and my favorite in the entire show. It's made entirely from little, tiny pieces of organza that Jongkyeong Lee soldered together with a soldering iron. It was stunning and absolutely bonkers to see.

I'll close with a pic of Alex and me at the banquet on opening night.
